Pachelbel's Canon is a a musical work for originally composed for three violins and ground bass (basso continuo) by German Baroque composer Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706).
It is Pachelbel's best-known composition and one of the most widely performed pieces of Baroque music.
Pachelbel was close with the Bach family. He was godfather of Johann Sebastian’s sister, Johanna Juditha, and teacher of Johann Christoph (1671), J.S.Bach’s eldest brother .
It is said Pachelbel performed his Canon at one of the Bach members' weddings and has been heard at weddings ever since!
